The counselors at Bowditch Middle School believe

  • All students have intrinsic value
  • All students have the ability to learn in a developmentally appropriate manner
  • Our primary role is in being an advocate for every student
  • We should celebrate and draw upon the diversity among our students
  • All students should have access to a school counseling program delivered by state-certified level counselors

And that the Bowditch Middle School comprehensive counseling program should:

  • Be based on the goals and developmental student competencies outlined by the American School Counselor’s Association, the California Department of Education, and the San Mateo-Foster City School District
  • Be evaluated by school, district, and state supervisors based upon pre-determined goals and student competencies
  • Be proactive and data-driven
  • Draw upon the knowledge of and collaborate with family, school, and community stakeholders
  • Be willing to seek continuous improvement through self-assessment
  • Utilize a team approach for planning and management purposes
  • Embrace technology to enhance program delivery

And that all counselors at Bowditch Middle School:

  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counseling Association
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities to remain abreast of best practices
