Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is an evidence based and effective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula. The Program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior. The program is taught one day a week in lieu of the regular language arts classes for 13 weeks. Students learn to identify role models, set goals, communicate effectively and identify with their community. As part of their graduation requirements, they must identify a problem in the community and implement a solution. Bowditch has allowed the FCPD to teach this program to their students for over 20 years.
